Each tax year will be recalculated if you enter a claim. This often identifies other overpayments due to incorrect tax codes, multiple employments, ceasing of job, etc. In these cases we can identify a much larger tax rebate. We regularly identify rebates of over £1,000 for customers who were originally estimated a lower amount.

If you claim now you will receive tax relief for the current tax year and future years that allowances continue to apply, paid through your monthly pay. The value of this is usually £{{ App.CustomerClaim.AnnualRefund }} per year.

You don’t need to make any upfront payment to us in order for us to check if you are due a rebate.

We will ensure that your current year reliefs are correct and that your future year allowances are adjusted in line with the current year to ensure you are no longer being overtaxed. There will be no charge for this service.

The annual saving of £{{ App.CustomerClaim.AnnualRefund }} per year for the current and future years will not be subject to charge. You will receive this automatically in your pay once your tax code has been adjusted.

We will also check the earlier years to determine if you can claim back any previously overpaid tax. HMRC will pay any rebate due directly to us and we will forward payment to you, in due course, net of our deductions of 28%, plus VAT, where due, providing the net refund payment is £20 or more.

We will issue your refund through our Uniform Benefits payment card which you can withdraw cash on at a cashpoint or spend in shops or online like a normal debit card. If you use your card at selected retailers you can also earn additional cashback to continue to spend.

Healthcare Worker Tax Rebate - Laundry Allowance for Healthcare Workers

All jobs come at a cost, with some added expense we have not have factored in beforehand. For healthcare staff one of those costs is laundry. But with this expense comes a perk – HMRC provides tax rebates to many of the staff who work in uniform caring for the sick, disabled and elderly across the UK.

Uniforms worn in the work place are not used outside of working hours but remain an integral part of the healthcare profession. Healthcare staff handle harmful microorganisms as a routine part of their job. To make sure these germs don't spread or cause adverse affects on either staff or patients, it's important all uniforms are washed at extremely high temperatures. These uniforms are provided specifically for working with patients and people in a healthcare environment and are subject to infection control regulations. These regulations call for uniforms to be washed at temperatures of over 60°. It is an imperative requirement that protects both staff and patients. At such high temperatures dangers are eliminated and harmful bacteria boil away.

Given that the majority of clothes come with a label that recommend they are washed at a temperature of 40 ° it’s unlikely the uniform of healthcare workers can be thrown in with the rest of the laundry! Laundry costs expand when the heat is on and multiple separate washes need to be put through the machine.

Those who qualify are sectioned by profession into four categories, each able to claim an allowance between £60 and £140 against their annual tax bill.

HMRC allows uniform tax rebate claims for healthcare workers within the following categories

1. ambulance staff on active service

2. chiropodists, dental nurses, occupational, speech, physiotherapists and other therapists, phlebotomists, radiographers, nurses, midwives (including HCAs, HCSWs and all other care assistants)

3. plaster room orderlies, hospital porters, ward clerks, sterile supply workers, hospital domestics, hospital catering staff

4. laboratory staff, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants, uniformed ancillary staff - maintenance workers, grounds staff, drivers, parking attendants and security guards, receptionists and other uniformed staff (including doctors and dentists)

Laundry is cost we all incur during our life time but for healthcare workers this cost is necessary part of the job that has to be done to a certain standard for the sake of all our health.
